Notre Dame 30 USC 27 – Highlights And Recap
After leading 17-3 at the half, ND let SC back in the game in the 2nd half. ND’s 3rd quarter as has been the case all year only recorded 3 points.
ND also let SC’s freshman QB Slovis air it out and he got better and better as the game wore on – he’s got 3 more years, so that’s a problem ahead.
ND QB Ian Book was workmanlike threw only 1 TD pass to TE Kmet, but Book got us out of jams with his legs even scoring the clinching TD on a designed run.
FG kicker Jonathan Doerer got the game ball and he deserved it, kicking 3 40+ yard FG’s that made the difference in the outcome.
Tony Jones ran for 176 yards while ND had a total of 308 yards rushing. Braden Lenzy had a 51 yard TD run on an end around. He has blazing speed and ND needs to get him into the offense – he probably would excel as the Slot receiver.
USC has a monster back in M. Stepp – hope he’s a senior and I really hope they keep their current coach Helton forever.
Lots of recruits were on hand and they got to see a very good rivalry game.
I really don’t see any easy games ahead so ND must come up with a consistent offense to run the table.
