Notre Dame 31 Syracuse 15
Well we made it through Sept without a loss ranked 8th and 4-0.
Syracuse didn’t put up much of a fight which surprised me. Believe it or not they do have a good running game but we held them to 135 rushing yards. I’d give the game ball to Joe Schmidt. He was all over the field and seemed to be in on every tackle.
BVG dialed up an outstanding defense, holding Syracuse’s big running QB in check. Only glitch was fake punt run–about 40 yards but all for naught.
This game really was not even close. They had a pick six late in the game that gave them some hope, but that was quickly squelched.
ND got a bad error prone game out of the way and Golson was responsible for 4 turnovers – 2 picks and 2 fumbles.
He has got to be more conscious of how he holds the ball. Right now he is very easy for a strip. Fuller, Robinson and Torii Hunter all played exceptional with Hunter getting his first ND TD.
The running game still need a lot of help even though Syracuse was hell bent on stopping it. We had 500 yds total offense and the running game accounted for 162 yards but a lot of that was Hunter on 2 sweeps.
The OL was adequate… I still think Nick Martin has more than a hand injury, he just is not looking how he played last year before his knee injury. Before the year is out, I’m betting frosh Quenton Nelson takes an OG position, even though Kelly hell bent on a red shirt.
We beat the spread and Stanford not looking that formidable, but we sure as hell better get a running game from somewhere – find a way to keep Bryant from dancing around. It all will come down to the OL and the running game against our next 4 opponents.
Here are the highlights and post game presser with Kelly:
