Notre Dame 35 NC State 14 – Recap And Highlights
NC State scored 1 offensive TD against a rejuvenated Irish Defense. There are a lot of guys that stood out on the “D” including Julian Love’s pick for a 69 yard TD. #4 Tevon Coney LB (monster game) had the best game of his career including stuffing the NC State RB for a 2 yard loss on 4th and 1. The whole Defense really gets a tip of the hat.
After a complete screw up on a punt that was blocked for a TD by NC State the offense got rolling.
Outstanding blocking opened up gigantic holes for Josh Adams. He had 27 carries for 202 yards including a 77 yard burst right up the middle. That run early in the 3rd quarter crushed NC State – game over.
Wimbush did his part throwing 2 TD’s and absolute incredible body control by TE Durham Smythe and Kevin Stepherson. The offense sputtered early, but took control and ran the ball right down the throat of NC State’s 6th ranked defense.
ND certainly made great hires in OC Chip Long and DC Mike Elko. I really like it when Brian Kelly is a bystander.
Not to leave himself out entirely, he made sure that 2nd string QB Book did not play even just to hand the ball off when game was already decided. Looked like Long wanted to put him in and Kelly nixed it.
Do you know who needs to go ASAP? Special Teams Coach Brian Polian. I have never seen a lineup of 4 guys try to block 10 who blew right past them for a blocked TD. What the hell was that? Now there’s a job for Kelly. Also, try to keep him from interfering with the offense.
Polian was a gofer on Charlie Weis’s staff and there too he screwed up the Special Teams. He also coached as HC at Nevada and was terrible.
Barring a complete meltdown ND should cruise through the rest of the schedule.
