Notre Dame 38 Texas 3

Finally, an Opening Game that ND looked like the teams of yore. Malik Zaire had a game that kids dream about, starting his first game in the Opener in ND Stadium – 19/22 313 passing yds, 3 TD’s including a 66 yarder to Will Fuller. Zaire looked confident, poised and accurate.

Tarean Folston went down with a knee injury within the first 6 plays and it does not look good. CJ Prosise picked up the slack with 98 yds. on 20 carries and true freshman RB Josh Adams ran for 2 TD’s including a 25 yarder right up the middle and no one touched him.

Hat tip to the entire OL, they played great the entire game. It looks like LG Quenton Nelson is the real deal.

Swarming defense with the DL really laying wood on an inexperienced Texas OL. Jaylon Smith was all over the place and actually the whole defense played well.

Stats: ND 527 total yds. Texas 163. This is called a beatdown and while Texas is sub par, at least it’s a big time program and not some patsy that other schools opened with.

I cannot express how pissed off I am about the ND announcers – funereal at best – boring, low keyed. Almost sounded like they were calling a golf game. I don’t know who the other guy is but Flutie is dreadful and I think anti-ND. There must be some ND former players that could do the color. Hell I remember Paul Hornung doing it but we get Pat Haden and Doug Flutie. Can we see that Hail Mary pass one more time?

Finally, a nit pick. The blue jerseys look washed out and shabby on TV, something wrong with the color and damn it put names on the jerseys.

Squibs:

• Penn State’s annual doormat Temple beat them and PSU looked dreadful. That coach won’t last long there.
• Stanford #21 lost to Northwestern. This is not the old Harbaugh Stanford.
• UCLA beat Virginia and UCLA has a star true freshman QB Josh Rosen that looks like Peyton Manning. Gives USC the willies for the next 4 years.
