Notre Dame 41 Florida State 38 In OT – 2021
ND blew an 18 point lead in the 4th quarter that led to an OT win on a FG. This was after a big blitz by JD Bertrand that forced a 50 yd FG to put them ahead except Mike Norvell forced the Refs to change their call which resulted in a missed 37 yard try. The old John Madden adage – you never take points off the board.
ND QB Jack Coan had a terrific 1st game going 26/35 for 367 yards and 4 TD’s. Kevin Austin got his first TD on a perfect pass from Coan. Coan passed the ball around, but was really zeroed in on TE Michael Mayer – it seemed he was getting about 50 throws but unfortunately he dropped 3 at critical times.
Check out the game highlights:
ND’s running game was non existent with a total of 65 yards for the entire game. The OL did not run block at all. Then they lost LT Blake Fisher and brought in Carmody who actually played well. They have to get Rocco Spindler in their starting rotation.
On defense I thought VanGorder was back. ND went to a 3 man front in the 2nd half and never changed which let FSU back in this game. DT Rylie Mills had a strip sack fumble while taking the QB down with his left arm and the FSU LT down with his right arm. Mills should start every game.

ND has an awful lot to correct or its going to be a rough year.
