Notre Dame Vs. Florida State

I was a lot more optimistic about this game until last week. FSU QB Winston is a big guy 6’4″ 235 lbs similar to the UNC QB only he’s a better passer and, of course, he’s got a Heisman. He’s also probably the biggest dickhead in college football, but he can really play the game.

The only possible way we can win this game is to stop the run and that includes his running straight up the field when he drops back ala Tebow.

The ND defense must be able to pressure him and that means blitzing since our front four alone will not be able to get to him against a big experienced OL such as FSU has. He is going to get his completions and score points, but let’s try to make him throw perfect passes while getting to him. In my opinion, if we can’t do that we lose.

Now to the ND offense. I simply do not have much faith in the ND offensive line. FSU has a big fast DE Mario Edwards about 300 lbs so look to him to line up many times over our Center. The game will be won or lost right there.

Golson makes me very edgy, he does not appear to be ready when the game starts – sort of vacant looking and so far early in the games he seems just to be going thru the motions.

Kelly tried at his Thursday press conference to boost his confidence by stating that even if he throws 4 ints he will not be pulled from the game, we win or lose with Golson.

FSU is not as good as their team last year, but they are a lot better than North Carolina. I thought we might have an edge with Brindza until I found out that the FSU kicker Aguayo won the Lou Groza award last year.

Anyhow the FSU DL outplays ND’s OL and harasses Golson into mistakes early, gets the lead and more or less coasts to a win. We end up with no running game and play from behind all night.

One other thing – I hope Kelly does not try to put a leash on VanGorder’s aggressive play calling for if Kelly plays scared he just might do it.
