I’ll bet that any casual observer was strongly rooting for Ball State – I know I was leaning that way. What a sorry excuse ND is for any consideration for elite status this season.

One thing we do know is that Brandon Wimbush cannot pass and that Ball State QB Riley Neal can. If either will be a Pro QB, it will be Neal. Which brings up Ian Book.

How Kelly cannot give him a shot for even a series is unbelievable. This was the game to turn Book loose to see what he could do. Hell, I was even hoping the Frosh QB would play.

The starters needed a rest, unfortunately they did it during the game. Ball State was loaded with scrawny Indiana kids but, they were beating up on our 4 & 5 Star OL – OT play was atrocious – you can throw the Center into that category also.

Ball State ran 97 plays and owned the clock and got jobbed when Chris Finke fumbled in ND territory – real homer call.

The next 2 weeks look bleak before we head into the meat of our schedule. 8-4 will be a miracle now.

This game is an excellent opportunity for ND to play a number of 2nd, 3rd teamers and just maybe ND’s freshman QB.

This game should get the starters out early and provide much needed actual playing time for I hope many of the backups. Freshman can play in 4 games and it won’t affect their scholarship status – new rule.
