Oklahoma State 37 Notre Dame 35
How do you describe this fiasco that makes any sense? Number one in Marcus Freeman’s 1st game is why was he not the Defensive Coordinator?
It’s his first game and on a big stage. Neither Elston or any of the “D” were really capable. Big Mistake!! He actually looked like he was just watching this game. Nick Saban frequently was the DC while he was the HC.
After the way Jack Coan and the “O” shredded OSU he should have been “D” only. By the way kudos to Rees and the OL for protecting Coan who literally passed as though he was a Heisman guy.
He finished the game 38/68 509 yards. He distributed the ball to every receiver and they were all great in the 1st half with Mayer getting 2 TD’s.
And then it all went to hell. Mayer scores it’s 28-7 with about 1 minute to play–now the chances of a ND win end. OSU goes down the field and scores with 39 seconds left 28-14 and when I saw that happen I knew ND would lose.
The ND Defense lost all mobility – heavy legs on the DL & LB’s and missed tackles all over by just about everyone.
Oklahoma State gets the kickoff for the 3rd quarter and quickly scores a TD. Freeman then should have taken full control of the Defense.
OSU made half time game changes and ND did not on either side of the ball. We’ve also seen this all year.
My question is this — ND players were exhausted after the first half of the football game — I thought their Conditioning Guru Matt Balis fixed this?
This is a bad beginning for the Marcus Freeman era and a number of coaching changes must be made.
This was definitely a winnable game, but ND was out coached all around and the players were completely gassed after halftime – this put the coaches in a brain freeze.
