ND vs UVA Highlights 2021

Notre Dame coasted to an easy if dull win over UVA without their QB Armstrong.

ND ended a lopsided 423 yards to 278. Jack Coan was 15/20 and 3 TD’s. Kyren Williams ran for 70 yards while Diggs had a great run and hurdle.

The real story here was the ND Defense who battered the UVA QB the whole game.

Finally, Rylie Mills got a start at DE and got 3 sacks. Bo Bauer started and had a team leading 9 tackles. Both of these guys should have started all year.

So now 9-1 with only Georgia Tech and Stanford remaining.

ND vs UVA Predictions

Virginia comes into this game as the leading offense in the country. They have a QB named Brennan Armstrong at 6’4″ and he is a bigger QB than NC’s Sam Howell, but is just as good.

He usually accounts for 400 yards per game. This offense is 64% passes with usually 5 receivers – so if you cover 4, Armstrong will find the 5th.

Their last game was a 66-49 loss to BYU. BYU got a 3 TD lead, but Armstrong closed Virginia to 42-38 at the half. He injured a rib in the 4th quarter, but I think he’ll attempt to play this game.

UVA’s uptempo passing attack looks like a machine gun is in use.

They will score on ND unless ND can get to the QB. ND needs TD’s for any hope to outscore UVA.

The UVA defense is mediocre at best, but ND needs a lot of TD’s to win this game.

Why does a big win like this one make me so nervous going ahead? ND almost got blown out in the 1st half as Virginia looked unstoppable and led 17-14.

What the hell is happening to Ian Book? He really seems more indecisive and making more bad decisions. He was better last year. He ended the day 17/25 165 yards – no TD’s, but also no picks but was sacked 2x.

He runs out of bounds when he could throw it away. Not really bad numbers, but the defense really won this game. It’s almost as though somebody is getting into his head – Kelly?

Kelly has no problem removing QB’s as Book well knows. Is something going on that’s affecting his poise and pocket presence and confidence?

Chip Long so far has run a helter skelter offense that is not helping Book at all. I don’t like whatever he is trying to do, but at least this week ND ran the ball and Tony Jones had a great day 18/132 and 3 TD’s.

For the last 2 after game pressers Kelly has hinted about changes on the offense. Something is spooking Book.

Okwara is a monster on defense – he’s ready for the Pro’s right now.

Virginia is 4-0 in the 2019 Season so far and currently ranked #18:

  • Won 30-14 vs Pitt
  • Won 52-17 vs Wm & Mary
  • Won 31-24 vs Fla. State
  • Won 28-17 vs Old Dominion

Virginia led by Coach Bronco Mendenhall is riding his defense and a dual threat QB Bryce Perkins (34 TD’s) and so far both Offense and Defense have been sharp this year. The Defense returned 8 starters.

Don’t think ND is just going to roll over these guys – remember 2015? ND needed a last minute 50 Yard TD pass from Kizer to Fuller to pull that one out. And we don’t have a Will Fuller on this team.

I’m not worried about the ND defense, but Chip Long must run an up tempo game plan – just pre call and follow the script – ball out in 3 seconds. Book doesn’t trust his O line enough to stay in the pocket and so far can’t seem to pass on the run.

If ND starts fast and plays fast they will win.

I see a tight game with a ND win.
