QB Sam Hartman shredded Wake with 4 TD passes and Audrick Estime ran for over 100 yards. I wonder if we will ever see the likes of Joe Alt, Hartman and Estime on the field for ND at same time again.
Hartman hit 4 players for TD’s – Ford, Raridan, Merriweather and Greathouse.
Steve Angeli closed out the scoring with a beautiful pass to Faison – 18 yds TD.
A lot of wailing out of ND as they look to close out schedule for 2023. Start with the OC and then the HC. Apparently Freeman wants to run a ground and pound while also keeping QB Hartman from changing plays pre snap.
So with 6 years Hartman now knows more about offense than both the OC and HC but can’t be trusted to change plays – go figure. That is why they have 3 losses.
Saturday ND welcomes Wake Forest and who better to call plays than Hartman?
ND is just too strong to lose to Wake even if Mickey Mouse is calling plays – plus its Senior Day.
It took 3 in and 3 out series and then new starting QB Ian Book exploded on the stadium leading ND to 56 points. Book was 25/34 for 325 yards passing 2 TD’s ano no picks.
He also ran for 43 yards and 3 TD’s while passing to 10 different receivers – WOW!! New QB in town.
Books passes were accurate, quick and crisp which allowed his receivers to gain chunks of yards after the catch. It also opened up the running game with Armstrong, Jones and Davis rushing for 180 yards.
ND finished the game with 566 total yards and Chris Finke just missed a punt return for a TD. Book seemed to jumpstart everything – the OL played with more energy and fun than we’ve seen in years.
Finally, the Offense was able to give the “D” a rest as a number of reserves played, although I thought Coney and Tranquill should have been pulled earlier. Tranquill is one hell of a player.
Enjoy the Highlights:
Here is the Brian Kelly Post Game press conference:
This game is shaping up to be a replay of last years 48-37 ND win and it was not easy.
Wake Forest also played 3 games so far:
Tulane – W 23-17
Towson – W 31-20
Boston College – L 41-34
Wake runs a very high powered speed offense and if it’s hot it could wear out the ND defense. They also hold the ball for extended periods of time.
They had 105 plays run against BC led by true freshman QB Sam Hartman who has passed for 884 yards with 6 TD’s and 5 picks. He also had 193 yards rushing.
The main weapon for Wake is slot receiver Greg Dortch who does everything and ND will have a hell of a time covering him. Dortch is also an excellent kick returner.
Notre Dame, so far has started out fast each game and then when other teams figure out what is going on they usually stop them in the 2nd half.
I also think that this may be the game that Ian Book takes over at QB.
