Texas At Notre Dame Predictions
Former Coach Mack Brown stayed a little too long as Head Coach. He always got the cream of the crop from an outstanding recruiting base as exemplified by great HS football in that State. Complacency set in, hard work lapsed and all of a sudden TCU, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and SMU became cool.
These schools hired good innovative coaches and they just Won and put a big dent in Texas supremacy on the recruiting trail. Quite simply, they just outworked Texas and the slide began.
Charlie Strong is brought in to right the ship and had a difficult first year finishing 6 W’s vs. 7 L’s including a 31-7 Bowl thrashing from Arkansas. So Strong is now in a rebuilding year and will field 2 true Freshman on the OL – Guard and Tackle and I believe 2 Freshman Safety’s. Notre Dame WR’s should have a field day. There is no way will they be able to cover Fuller and Brown on the long ball. For ND I would put Day and Rochelle on these 2 Texas OL.
Notre Dame expects Texas to run a Spread Offense with a fast dual QB. Texas also wants to run a power offense running the ball and they have a good RB. Their QB, while he can throw is more run oriented – meet Jaylon Smith. To stop the power running game expect to see a lot of Jarett Grace – 250lb. LB.
I fully expect UT to load the box, run blitz and make Zaire pass. Ok I’ll take that since we have a fast deep receiving corps – all routes should be open and all Zaire needs to do is get the ball somewhat near and these guys will go and get it.
Texas comes out running uptempo power football and plays way over their heads in the first half and then ND takes it to them. I see 4 TD passes and over 300 yds. rushing for ND. A star is born as Zaire excels.
Final score prediction:
Notre Dame 42 Texas 20
Check out the press conference of Brian Kelly talking about the Texas game (caution – the audio goes out at the 21 minutes 42 second mark):

Good write up. Let’s see what Zaire can really do.
