UMass Week Predictions
When considering this game go back to the last 50 seconds of the GT game where GT easily scored 15 points. Then consider the easy 2 missed FG’s by GT.
ND pass defense is really a concern in this game and similar to Virginia, UMASS can pass and comes in with a 6’6″ QB with a big arm – Blake Frohnapfel. They also have an outstanding WR in Tajae Sharpe.
In 2 games Frohnapfel has passed for 618 yds with a 50% completion rate. Coached by Mark Whipple, they show a lot of movement which seems to confuse our defense.
UMass is 0-2, losing to Colorado 48-14 and losing to a good Temple team on a last second FG 25-23.
Temple is coached by Matt Rhule (keep your eye on this guy) having beaten Penn State 27-10 and Cinncy 34-26. UMass passed for 438 yds against a good Temple defense.
Obviously the key to this game is get to the QB. If he has time, he will complete a lot of passes.
ND doesn’t have the luxury of a let down. They must get the subs in with a lot of playing time, but based on past experience ND is usually flat playing down to the opponent.
ND is favored by 28 – take UMASS and the points.
